The Hotline Gemini 120 dual power electric fence energiser offers a useful balance of power and flexibility for horse owners, smallholders and farmers. With 1.2 joules of output energy, it is suitable for medium-sized paddocks, livestock fencing, strip grazing and multiple electric nets, provided the fence is correctly constructed and earthed.
Its main advantage is the choice of power supply. The energiser can be connected to a rechargeable 12V leisure battery when mains electricity is unavailable, or powered from a 230V socket using the supplied mains adaptor. This allows the same energiser to be moved between temporary and permanent fence installations without having to purchase separate battery and mains models.
When operating from a battery, the Gemini 120 can be positioned near the fence and used with a compatible solar assist panel to help extend the period between battery charges. The low-battery indicator provides a useful warning when the power supply needs attention, while the pulse indicator gives a quick visual confirmation that the energiser is operating.
Hotline gives a maximum fence length of 18 km under ideal conditions. It also quotes capacity for up to fifteen 50 metre sheep nets or four 50 metre poultry nets. These figures should be treated as maximum technical capacities rather than recommendations for every installation. Vegetation touching the fence, poor connections, unsuitable conductors and inadequate earthing can substantially reduce the effective capacity.
The energiser is supplied with a mains adaptor, 12V battery lead, fence connection lead, earth connection lead and galvanised mounting stand. A 12V battery, earth stake, solar panel and insulated lead-out cable are not included.
When using mains power, insulated lead-out cable will normally be required to connect the energiser safely to the fence and earthing system. The energiser and mains connection should be installed under suitable cover and in accordance with Hotline’s instructions.
Made at Hotline’s Newton Abbot factory, the Gemini 120 is covered by a five-year manufacturer’s warranty when registered within 28 days of purchase.
