The Gallagher BA20 is a compact battery electric fence energiser for strip grazing, temporary horse paddocks and other short fences. It is particularly handy when mains electricity is unavailable and you want a lightweight energiser that can be moved around the field without a separate leisure battery.

Its normal power supply is a disposable 9V electric fence battery. This fits inside the energiser housing, keeping the complete installation neat and portable. A carrying handle makes it easy to move the unit when you reposition a grazing division or temporary paddock.

Several 9V battery capacities are available, ranging from 55Ah to 200Ah. This allows you to match the battery to the expected period of use, choosing a smaller and lighter option for seasonal fencing or a larger capacity for longer service.

The BA20 produces 0.12 joules of output energy and a maximum fence voltage of 9,600V. Gallagher rates it for multi-line fences up to 2km under ideal conditions, with around 1.5km suggested in light conditions. For an everyday three-line fence, Gallagher gives a recommended distance of approximately 500 metres.

This makes the BA20 a good fit for a typical strip-grazing arrangement, a temporary paddock division or another short fence kept reasonably clear of vegetation. Its modest output is best suited to horses and other animals that already respect electric fencing.

The energiser has regular and slower pulse settings. The slower mode reduces the pulse frequency and helps conserve battery power when the regular setting is not required.

LED indicators provide a quick visual check of the energiser and battery condition. The operating light flashes with each pulse, making it easy to see that the unit is working without needing to test the fence every time you pass.

The splash-resistant IPX4 housing is made for outdoor agricultural use and includes integrated lightning protection. A suitable earth stake is required to complete the installation and is not supplied with the energiser.

The BA20 can also be connected to an external rechargeable 12V battery using the separately available Gallagher 9V/12V connection cable set. This gives you a rechargeable alternative if you do not want to use disposable 9V batteries. The 12V battery and required connection cable are not included.

Fence and earth connection leads are supplied with the energiser. You can also select a package containing a 9V battery, allowing you to choose the capacity that best suits how regularly and for how long the fence will be used.

The BA20 comes with Gallagher’s three-year manufacturer’s warranty as standard. Registering the energiser with Gallagher within three months of purchase extends the total warranty period to seven years.
